The Pressreader App
Pressreader is a great App in which the library provides free newspapers & magazines. The first thing you need to do is install it on your machine. On a Windows or Andriod machine you can get it here. On an iPhone or iPad; open your App Store & search for Pressreader.
If you're reading this on your device, the picture will get you the app..
Once you have the app installed, it will show an "icon" on your screen which will look like a very small version of the image above. It may be in the apps section of your device.
When you open it for the first time, it will display a lot of different newspapers etc, but will presume you are going to pay for the privilege, which we certainly don't have to do as we are all Edinburgh Library members. Across the bottom of the page it will show various options, including "For You", "Browse", "Downloaded", "Sign In" & "More". Click on "Sign In".
That will open the Sign In page with three options (Google, Facebook & Twitter) in bars, then two buttons below (Libraries & Email). Click on the Libraries button. Then click the bar to "Select Library or Group".
The Search page that opens has a huge list of libraries, starting in America, but the cursor (line waiting for you to type something) is flashing in the search bar across the top, so don't touch anything on the screen, simply type Edinburgh & it will come up with "Edinburgh Libraries". Click on that.
It will then reload the Sign In page with Edinburgh Libraries selected as your library. Further down the page it will ask for your Library card number, & your 4 number PIN. Once you've filled those in, make sure the "Stay signed in" arrow is ticked then click on Sign in. You will never have to fill that in again, unless things go wrong!
Once you have successfully signed in, it will load a page showing verious publications available in this area. It will also load a large window with a green section at the top then "Welcome to Edinburgh Libraries." underneath. Ignore that window & click on the black X at the top-left of the window to get rid of it. You are then free to "browse" for any publications, in almost every corner of the planet!
